Prayer plants are unique because of the way pairs of leaves close together at night like hands in prayer. They are also known as red herringbone plants because of the leaves’ deep red, raised veins. The red midrib is surrounded by a pale-green stripe on the olive green leaf.
These are among the showiest of plants and should be displayed in a prominent position.
In the greenhouse, marantas need very rich organic soil, biweekly feedings of liquid manure, and ample moisture both in the soil and in the air. A constant temperature of 75-F.(23.89-C.) or more, and some shading from the hottest sun, recommended.
