
(Aucuba Japonica ‘Variegata’ known as spotted laurel, beautiful eye catcher in home, business, or landscape. They are also known as ‘Japanese laurels’, these plants were much used by the Victorians in their shrubberies and greenhouses. The modern hybrids are more cheerful, having leaves strongly variegated with yellow. They can be used in window-boxes and in cool rooms as they tolerate a certain amount of neglect, poor light and drafts.
The secret to these plants are they grow off the roots in a landscape. Remove the baby laurel with a hand shovel to plant in container as house plants. The older the outside plant gets, the more tougher it is to remove the other laurels that surround it. So it is best to get them when they are small. This spotted laurel ‘s leaves turn black in the winter time when not protected by the freeze. It is best to water well during freeze & cover with burlap bag.
Likes shaded areas where there is cool filtered sun. These plants can reach as high as 4 feet.
Plants of about 8 inches, plant in containers. Feed with all-purpose plant food once a month.
