Psalm 119 is divided into 22 segments of 8 verses each, with a different letter of the alphabet titling each segment. Aleph is the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet. According to Young’s concordance, Aleph means learn, teach, utter, bring forth thousands, thousand, faint, overlaid, wrap self. Author of Psalm 119 is unknown, but some scholars suggest that it may have been David, Ezra, or Daniel. The author reflects his suffering from plots, slanders, taunts, persecutions, and afflictions and his commitment to God’s Word, which is mentioned in almost every verse. This long psalm deserves a long introduction. This author is unknown; but older commentators almost universally said it is a psalm of David, composed throughout his entire life.
It reads in Psalm 119:1-8 NIV:א Aleph “Learn, Teach, Utter.”
Blessed is those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart, they do no wrong but follow his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.
