Luke 13:18-21 Jesus explains two short examples that describe the kingdom of God. The first compares the kingdom to a mustard seed that grows into a tree that the birds can rest in. The second compares the kingdom to leaven (typically yeast, which is used in dough to make it rise.) that is Kneaded through an entire batch of dough. In both cases, growth is slow at first, but once growth starts, it’s unstoppable. The Parables of the Mustard Seed and Leaven in This passage of Luke 13 describe the growth and spreading influence of the church but from different approaches.

It reads in Luke 13:18-21 Easy English Bible> Then Jesus said, “What is God’s kingdom like? What can I compare it to? God’s kingdom is like the seed of the mustard plant. Someone plants this seed in their garden. The seed grows and becomes a tree, and the birds build nests on its branches.” Jesus said again, “What can I compare God’s kingdom with? It is like yeast that a woman mixes into a big bowl of flour to make bread. The yeast makes all the dough rise.”
