A significant event in the New Testament to teach and strengthen His disciples. Three key moments from different accounts:
Matthew 28:16-20: Jesus meets the eleven disciples on a hill in Galilee. He gives them the Great Commission, instructing them to make disciples of all nations and baptize them.
Luke 24:36-49: Jesus appears to the disciples while they are discussing recent events. He greets them with “Peace be with you,” and shows them his hands and feet to prove he is not a ghost. He even eats a piece of broiled fish in their presence.
John 20:19-30: Jesus appears to the disciples on the evening of the first day of the week, despite the doors being locked. He shows them his hands and side, and the disciples are overjoyed.
These appearances helped to strengthen the disciples’ faith and prepare them for their mission to spread Jesus’ teachings. Especially the appearance of Jesus after His resurrection for 40 days that He walked the earth. Jesus stayed on earth for 40 days after His resurrection to demonstrate to His followers that He truly was alive. The Bible verse that confirms this is found in Acts 1:3: which states that Jesus “appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God”.
Jesus is our risen, ascended, and glorified God and Lord, Who died to redeem us and Who rose to give us His resurrected life. Even when we doubt You Lord and are faithless, You remain faithful to Your promise to whosoever believes. John14:1-3 Easy: Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Do not be sad or afraid. Believe in God, and also believe in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I will go now so that I can prepare a place for you there. If it was not true, I would not have told you this. After I have prepared a place for you, I will return. Then I will take you so that you will be with me. You will be where I am. This is what Jesus speaks to you as we live in and unpredictable world. Jesus is still our peacemaker.
It reads in John 20:19-23: On the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the disciples were meeting together. They had locked the doors of the room because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Then Jesus came and he stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were very, very happy when they saw the Lord. Jesus said again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, in the same way I am now sending you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them. He said, ‘Receive God’s Holy Spirit. If you forgive a person’s sins, God will forgive them too. If you do not forgive them, God will not forgive them.’
