Jesus writes a letter to the church in Sardis. The letter Jesus dictated to John to send to the church in Sardis. The church had a reputation of being a live church, but actually it was dead. While this reputation technical a praise, it’s a hollow one. The verse is not a denial that Jesus himself is God, but an acknowledgment that he is subject to his Father. (Philippians 2:6-11 NLT: Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.)It also reflects the human nature of Christ whereby Jesus Christ the Son of God is also “a son of man”. It’s a call to finish what you started. Specifically, it’s a letter about crossroads, those points in your spiritual life that determine if you will finish what you started, or if you’ll slowly drift further away from God.
It reads in Revelation 3:1-6 EASY: “Write this to the angel of the church in Sardis: “Here is a message from the one who has the seven spirits and the seven stars.“I know what you do. People say that you are alive, but really you are dead. Wake up! Make yourselves stronger before what little strength you have left is completely gone. I find that what you do is not good enough for my God. So don’t forget what you have received and heard. Obey it. Change your hearts and lives! You must wake up, or I will come to you and surprise you like a thief. You will not know when I will come. “But you have a few people in your group there in Sardis who have kept themselves clean. They will walk with me. They will wear white clothes, because they are worthy. Everyone who wins the victory will be dressed in white clothes like them. I will not remove their names from the book of life. I will say that they belong to me before my Father and before his angels. Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.
Father God, I thank You and praise You for the desire to do Your will for Your greater praise, honor and glory. I believe I will stay alert and remain obedient to Your Word, die to the desires of the flesh, and live my life for Jesus Christ. Thank You that as Your child I am already an overcomer, by faith, and that my name is written in the Lamb’s book of life and can never be erased. Thank You that I belong to Jesus and He is not ashamed to recognized me as family in front of You and angels. I love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
