The ancient city of Philadelphia, mentioned in the Bible, is located in modern-day Turkey. It was situated in western Asia Minor, near the Cogamis River, about 80 miles east of ancient Smyrn Today, this area is known as Alaşehir.
Jesus’ letter to the church in Philadelphia, offers several significant benefits and promises to the believers there:
Open Door of Opportunity: Jesus promises to set before them an open door that no one can close, symbolizing opportunities for ministry and evangelism.
Vindication: He assures them that their enemies will acknowledge that Jesus loves them.
Protection: Jesus promises to keep them from the hour of trial that is coming upon the whole world.
Stability and Permanence: He promises to make them pillars in the temple of God, symbolizing stability and permanence in God’s presence.
New Identity: They will receive the name of God, the name of the city of God (the new Jerusalem), and Jesus’ new name, signifying a new identity and belonging.
The highlight the faithfulness and rewards are promises for the church’s perseverance and steadfastness in their faith.
It reads in Revelation 3:7-13 Easy: “Write this to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: “Here is a message from the one who is holy and true, the one who holds the key of David. When he opens something, it cannot be closed. And when he closes something, it cannot be opened. “I know what you do. I have put before you an open door that no one can close. I know you are weak, but you have followed my teaching. You were not afraid to speak my name. Listen! There is a group that belongs to Satan. They say they are Jews, but they are liars. They are not true Jews. I will make them come before you and bow at your feet. They will know that you are the people I have loved. You followed my command to endure patiently. So I will keep you from the time of trouble that will come to the world, a time that will test everyone living on earth. “I am coming soon. Hold on to the faith you have, so that no one can take away your crown. Those who win the victory will be pillars in the temple of my God. I will make that happen for them. They will never again have to leave God’s temple. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God. That city is the new Jerusalem. It is coming down out of heaven from my God. I will also write my new name on them. Everyone who hears this should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.
Father God I don’t ever want to develope an attitude of complacency in my Christian walk. Keep me always alert to the many pitfalls and uncertanitys that litter the paths of all Your children. I want to be in full and utter dependence upon You alone every moment of the day as I hold fast to my crown until the end of my life. I was created in Your mind, a holy Thought that never left its home. I am forever Your Effect, and You forever and forever are my Cause. As You created me, I have remained. Miracles are You. Righteousness is You. Your Love is Power. I love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name. Amen.
