When Jesus was alive on this earth, he chose 12 men to work with him. These Men were called apostles. He sent them to teach other people about him. {One day, Jesus asked his 12 disciples to come to him. He gave them authority over bad spirits so that they could send the spirits out of people. They could also make sick people well again from every kind of illness. These are the names of the 12 apostles:The first apostle is Simon, who was also called Peter. Then Simon’s brother, who was called Andrew. Also James and his brother John, who were Zebedee’s sons. There were Philip and Bartholomew. There were Thomas and Matthew. (Matthew’s job was to take taxes from people.) And James who was the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus. There was also Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who later gave Jesus to his enemies. (Jesus sends out his 12 apostles) Jesus sent out these 12 disciples. Before they left, he said to them, ‘Do not go to any place where the people are Gentiles. And do not go to towns where only Samaritans live. Matthew 10:1-5} Matthew 28:16-18 Easy: Jesus appears to his apostles After this, the 11 disciples went to Galilee. They went to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they arrived at the place, they saw Jesus. Then they went down on their knees and they worshipped him. But some of the disciples were not sure that it really was Jesus. Jesus went near to them and he said to them, ‘God has given me authority over everyone and everything. I have all authority in heaven and in this world. }One of these men (Judas Iscariot) did not continue to believe in Jesus. Later, other men, like Paul, were also called Christ’s apostles.}This passage is a call to faith,
and obedience, recognizing the divine,
authority of Jesus. Fleshly and sinful pleasures are muddy and poisoned waters; and the best earthly comforts are like the scanty supplies of a cistern; when idolized, they become broken cisterns, and yield only wrath. But the joys which Jesus
Christ imparts are like waters springing from a fountain, pure, refreshing, abundant, and eternal.
“All things made new”
It reads in Revelation 21:1-8 Easy:Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had gone away. The sea also was not there any more. I saw God’s own holy city, called the new Jerusalem. It was coming down out of heaven from God. It was very beautiful, like a bride who is wearing beautiful clothes, ready to meet her husband. I heard a voice that spoke loudly from the throne. It said, ‘Look! God’s home is now among people! God will live together with them. They will be his people. God himself will be with them and he will be their God. God will take away all the tears from their eyes. Nobody will ever die again. Nobody will be sad again. Nobody will ever cry. Nobody will have pain again. Everything that made people sad has now gone. That old world has completely gone away.’ God, who was sitting on the throne, said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, because these words are true. Everyone should believe them.’ He also said to me, ‘Everything is now done! I caused all things to begin and I will cause the end of all things. I am the beginning and the end. If anyone is thirsty, I will give them water to drink. Nobody will have to pay anything for it. That water comes from a spring of water that gives life to people. Everyone who wins against Satan will receive all these things from me. I will be their God and they will be my children.
But I will punish other people.
They include:
People who are afraid of trouble.
People who do not believe in Jesus.
People who do disgusting things.
People who murder other people.
People who have sex in a wrong way.
People who use magic to hurt people.
People who worship idols.
People who tell lies.
All these people will go into the lake of fire that burns with Sulphur. That is the second death for people.’
Father God, I thank You and praise You for Your Word. I want to be Your vessel to lead others back to You. I know that we all are reminded of a new heaven and a new earth in this part of Revelation. Where there will be no more tears, and pain will be no more. May this vision fill our heart with hope, and may we all find strength in the promise of Your renewal and peace. May we all stay strong in our faith. A faith that desn’t waver. I love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
