After Esau and Jacob’s reunion, Esau suggests traveling together, but Jacob declines, citing the slow pace of his children and livestock. Jacob chooses a different path and settles in Succoth, where he builds shelters for his livestock. Later, he moves to Shechem, purchases land, and erects an altar, signifying his devotion to God. This division discusses the topics of forgiveness, humility, and Jacob’s experiences with divine guidance.
It reads in Genesis 33:12-20 Easy: Then Esau said, ‘Let us continue to go on our way. I will travel with you.’ But Jacob said, ‘My lord, the children are not very strong. Many of the animals have young babies. If we go too far in one day, then all the animals will die. So you should go in front of me, my lord. I will travel slowly with the animals and children, so that they are comfortable. Then, my lord, I will come to you in Seir.’ Esau said, ‘Then let me leave some of my men to travel with you.’ But Jacob replied, ‘You do not need to do that. All I want is for you to be happy with me.’ So Esau began his journey back to Seir that same day. 17 But Jacob went to Succoth instead. He built a house for himself, and he made huts for his animals. That is why the place is called Succoth. After Jacob left Paddan Aram, he travelled safely to Canaan. He put up his tents there, near the city of Shechem. He bought the piece of ground where he had put up his tents. He paid 100 pieces of silver to Hamor’s sons to buy the land. Hamor was the father of Shechem.Jacob built an altar in that place. He called the altar ‘The God of Israel is the true God’.
Father God, Thank You and praise You that, as Jacob chose his path with discernment and care, asking for Your wisdom in guiding our steps. Teach us to rely on Your timing, to trust that You know what is best for us. In moments of indecision, give us clarity, help us to move forward with courage and faith, even when the road ahead seems uncertain. Let our choices honor You, just as Jacob built an altar to proclaim Your name. As we create spaces in our lives, fostering moments that acknowledge positive experiences, grant us strength to progress steadily according to the pace we establish. To care for those entrusted to us with patience and love. As Jacob established himself in the land assigned to him, we express our gratitude and acknowledge the places that have been designated for us to reside. Help us to live with an attitude of gratitude, Seeing Your hand in every blessing. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
