Joseph, the beloved son of Jacob, receives a coat of many colors. His brothers become jealous because Jacob favors Joseph. This  really sets the stage for Joseph’s incredible journey. His brothers thought they could erase him, but their actions only propelled him toward his destiny. It’s a story of resilience, divine purpose, and how even betrayal can lead to something greater.

It reads in Genesis 37:1-4Easy: Jacob lived in Canaan, the land where his father had lived. This is the report about Jacob and his family. Joseph was Jacob’s son. When he was 17 years old, he took care of his father’s sheep and goats. He did this together with his brothers. These were the sons of his father’s wives, Bilhah and Zilpah. Sometimes Joseph told his father bad things about his brothers. Jacob loved Joseph more than he loved any of his other sons. This was because Joseph was born when Jacob was old. So Jacob made a special coat for Joseph.  Joseph’s brothers knew that Jacob loved him more than he loved them. So they hated Joseph. They could not say anything nice to him.

Father God, Just like Joseph’s coat of many colors symbolized his father’s love and favor, personal items often become reminders of connection, value, and experiences we’ve lived through. Although even when it seems You aren’t in it, and You are still there through it all. I thank You and praise You for Your Word showing Your love for every individual and that even You’re covering You leave us through embracing us with the Holy Spirit, grace and favor. Joseph whose story is so familiar to us. As I reflect on the coat that Israel bestowed on Joseph and the privilege and status it inferred, I am reminded of the astonishing privilege and status You have bestowed on me. Thank You that I am Your child and that You loved me so much, You sent Your beloved Son to die so that I might live. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
