Perez, meaning “breach” or “breakthrough,” became an ancestor of King David and Jesus Christ. Perez and his twin brother Zerah were born to Tamar and Judah in a rare manner: Zerah’s hand emerged first, marked by a scarlet thread, but Perez was born first. This event highlights divine intervention and the unexpected fulfillment of God’s plan despite human circumstances.
It reads in Genesis 38: 27-30 Easy: The time came for Tamar to give birth, and there were twins! While she was giving birth, one baby put out his hand. The woman who was helping Tamar tied a red string to that baby’s arm. She said, ‘This baby came out first.’ But then the baby moved his hand back inside and his brother came out first. The woman said, ‘You have opened a way for yourself to come out!’ So, they gave him the name ‘Perez’.[ Then his brother came out, with the red string on his arm. They gave him the name ‘Zerah’.
Father God, thank You and praise You for Your wisdom. Guide us to trust Your timing, even when life is unpredictable. Help us overcome obstacles, knowing You lead us. Shape our path according to Your will. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus’ Precious name, Amen.
