Jacob lives in Goshen for 17 years. As his death nears, he asks Joseph to promise not to bury him in Egypt but in his ancestral tomb. Joseph agrees, and Jacob rests, giving thanks to God.

It reads in Genesis 47:27–31 Easy: The Israelites stayed in Egypt, in the region called Goshen. They had their own land there. They gave birth to many children so that they became very many people. Jacob lived in Egypt for 17 years. His whole life was 147 years. The time came for him to die. So, he called his son Joseph to come to him. Jacob said to him, ‘If you agree, make a serious promise to me. Put your hand between my legs to show that I can trust you. I promise that you will be kind to me and that you will do as I ask. When I die, do not bury me here in Egypt. Carry my body out of Egypt. Bury me in the grave of my ancestors.’ Joseph said, ‘I will do as you say.’ Jacob said, ‘Promise me that you will do this.’ Then Joseph made a promise to him. After that, Jacob rested on his bed, and he thanked God.

Father God, of covenant and comfort, You, shepherd Your people even in foreign lands. In Goshen’s light, Jacob found rest, in his final breath, he remembered Your promise. Thank You and praise You for the mercy that spans generations, for land that shelters, and love that anchors. As Jacob prepared to return to his ancestors, He reached for legacy, not fear. Teach us to hold loosely what is temporary, cling tightly to what is eternal. Let our final requests be rooted in hope, and our farewells shaped by faith. We ask, like Jacob, to be remembered with kindness, not for wealth or length of time, for the promises we trusted and the blessings we passed on. That is all that will matter. In life’s last chapters, give us the grace to rest in Your goodness, To make peace with our journey, and to offer thanks that echoes beyond our years. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen.
