Joseph protests the reversal of tradition, but Jacob affirms that divine insight guides his blessing. He establishes a new pattern, God’s grace often upends expectation, as seen in Isaac over Ishmael, and Jacob over Esau. Jacob gives Joseph a double portion of land, symbolizing both favor and fulfillment of promise.

It reads in Genesis 48:17–22 Easy: Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraim’s head. This made Joseph upset. So, he took hold of his father’s right hand. He moved it from Ephraim’s head on to Manasseh’s head. Joseph said to Jacob, ‘No, my father. This boy is the firstborn son. Put your right hand on his head.’But Jacob refused to change. He said, ‘I know, my son. I know what I am doing. Manasseh will also have many descendants who become a great nation. But his younger brother, Ephraim, will become even greater. Ephraim’s descendants will become many great nations.’So Jacob blessed both of Joseph’s sons that day. He said, ‘In your name Israel’s people will give this blessing: “May God be good to you, just like he was to Ephraim and Manasseh.”’ In this way, Jacob put Ephraim before Manasseh when he blessed them. Then Jacob said to Joseph, ‘I will die soon. But God will be with you. He will take you back to the land where your ancestors lived. I give to you more than I give to your brothers. I give to you the good part of the land that I took from the Amorites. I fought against them with my weapons to take that land.’

Father God, bless trust and legacy. I thank You and praise You that when Your ways surprise me, help me trust Your wisdom. As Jacob saw what others could not, teach me to listen to Your Spirit beyond appearances. Let me bless with boldness, not fear, and speak life over the ones You’ve placed in my care. Thank You and praise You for Your promises, for the land You give to be taken care of, for the guidance You offer, and for the legacy of grace passed down through generations. I rest in Your plan, no one else’s even when it crosses my own. One day at a time Sweet Jesus! Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Jesus Precious Name Amen and Amen.
