“Honor your father and your mother.”
Meaning: It reads in Exodus 20:12 Easy “You must honor and respect your father and your mother. Do this so that you will have a full life in the land that the Lord your God gives you.
Treat your parents with dignity, respect, and integrity. Honor does not always mean agreement. It does not mean allowing abuse, manipulation, or disrespect. It means carrying yourself in a way that reflects God’s character — even when relationships are imperfect or painful.
Heart Reflection:
For some, this commandment feels warm and simple. For others, it touches old wounds, unmet needs, or complicated histories. God does not ask us to pretend. He asks us to walk in honor, which is about our character, not their behavior.
Honor can look like:
- speaking respectfully
- setting healthy boundaries
- forgiving without reopening old doors
- praying for healing
- choosing peace over bitterness
This commandment is less about the past and more about the kind of person God is shaping you to be.
Poetic Line:
Honor is not silence or surrender — it is choosing dignity when others choose less.
Prayer:
“Lord, teach me to honor in a way that is healthy and true. Heal what is broken, soften what is hardened, and guide me in wisdom where relationships are difficult. Let my actions reflect Your grace and let peace guard my heart.” In Jesus Precious Name Amen.
