It reads in Exodus 21:35–36 Easy: If one man’s bull attacks another man’s bull, it may die. Then they must sell the bull that is still alive. Each man can take half of the money and half of the dead bull as well. But perhaps that bull has attacked other animals before. If its owner knows that and he did not do anything, he must pay for the dead bull. He should have kept his bull in a safe place. So, he must pay the owner of the dead bull, but he can keep the dead animal for himself.
When one person’s ox kills another’s, the loss is shared, unless the aggressive ox was known to be dangerous. Then the owner must pay in full. This law teaches us that accidents call for shared grace, but ignored warnings demand full accountability. God’s justice is not just about punishment, it’s about fairness, honesty, and protecting relationships. When we know better, we’re called to do better.
Lord Jesus, help us respond with fairness when loss touches others. Teach us to share burdens when accidents happen, and to take full responsibility when we’ve ignored the warning signs. May our hearts reflect Your justice, and our actions protect those around us thank You Amen.
