Leviticus 20:1-9 ERV: The Lord said to Moses, “You must also tell the Israelites these things: Anyone living in Israel who gives one of their children to the false god Molech must be killed! It doesn’t matter if they are a citizen of Israel or a foreigner, you must throw stones at them and kill them. I will be against them and separate them from their people, because they gave their children to Molech. They showed that they did not respect my holy name. And they made my holy place unclean. Maybe the common people will ignore them. Maybe they will not kill those who gave their children to Molech ( An ancient Canaanite deity linked with child sacrifice; the Bible condemns worship of Molech as idolatry and a grave violation of God’s law.). But I will be against these people and their families. I will separate them from their people. I will separate anyone who is unfaithful to me and chase after Molech.” I will be against anyone who goes to mediums and wizards for advice. Whoever does this is being unfaithful to me. So, I will separate them from their people. “Be special. Make yourselves holy, because I am the Lord your God. Remember and obey my laws. I am the Lord. And I have made you my special people. “Whoever curses their father or mother must be put to death. They cursed their father or mother, so they are responsible for their own death!
When the Bible speaks against Molech, it’s not only condemning a foreign god but also protecting the vulnerable, especially children, and calling the community to faithful, life‑affirming worship. The passages invite us to reject practices that devalue human life and to care for those who cannot protect themselves. These verses warn Israel against adopting the detestable practices of the nations, especially child sacrifice and other forms of idolatry. God calls His people to be holy and to protect the vulnerable. Obedience to God’s commands preserves the community’s life and witness; disobedience brings judgment. For parents and leaders this passage underscores a sacred responsibility: to teach children the ways of the Lord, to protect their lives, and to model faithful worship so the next generation grows up knowing and following God.
Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, make us holy and faithful. Give parents wisdom and courage to teach children about You Lord Jesus and to protect them from harm. Help our families model faithful worship and pass on Your truth with love. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Lord Jesus Amen.
