Leviticus 22:10-16 ERV: Only a priest’s family can eat the holy food. A visitor staying with the priest or a hired worker must not eat any of the holy food.  But if the priest buys a person as a slave with his own money, that person may eat some of the holy things. Slaves who were born in the priest’s house may also eat some of the priest’s food. A priest’s daughter might marry a man who is not a priest. If she does that, she cannot eat any of the holy offerings. A priest’s daughter might become a widow, or she might be divorced. If she does not have any children to support her, and she goes back to her father’s house where she lived as a child, she can eat some of her father’s food. But only people from a priest’s family can eat this food.  “Whoever eats some of the holy food by mistake must give the priest the price of that food and add another one-fifth of the price as a fine. “The Israelites will bring offerings to the Lord. These offerings become holy, so the priests must not let them be used in a wrong way. They must not let the people eat these offerings. If they do, they are guilty of doing wrong, and they must pay for it. I am the Lord, the one who makes these offerings holy.”

These verses stress the holiness required around the offerings and those who serve at the altar. It reminds us that approaching God’s presence carries responsibility: purity of life, careful attention to what we bring, and respect for the sacred. For believers today the passage calls us to examine our motives and actions, are we offering what is right and honoring, or are we careless and self-serving? True worship combines reverence with integrity: God values not only our words but the condition of our hearts and the quality of what we give. Specifies that animals offered to the Lord must be without defect; animals that are blind, maimed, or have other blemishes are unacceptable for sacrifice. If an animal is offered in error, the rules for restitution and substitution are given. Offerings must be whole and unblemished; defective animals are not to be offered. Short quote: “No one of the offspring of Aaron the priest that has a blemish shall eat of the holy things.”

Dear Blessed Lord Jesus, make my heart holy and my offerings pleasing to You. Help me to come before You with reverence, honesty, and a pure motive. Teach me to honor You in what I give and how I serve. Love You, thank You, praise You and give You all the honor and glory in Your Mighty Precious Name Lord Jesus Amen.
