Aloe

Aloe vera perennial succulents, with large leaves and tubular red or yellow flowers, make very decorative plants. Their stiff appearance gives a “desert’ effect.
Aloe plants often stay healthy for years in the same pot and flower abundantly. Potting mixture recommended is three parts sandy loam, one part broken brick (for drainage), and an addition of some lime, compost or manure. Pot firmly and be sure surplus water can easily leave the soil.
Water very little, except when the plant is growing rapidly.
Aloe thrives in low humidity and full sun or partial shade. Propagation is by seed, division or slightly cutting the roots apart. They separate easily.
Aloe vera is sometimes called the “burn plant” as it’s juices are very soothing to minor burns.
